WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO

The Staffordshire regiment Association (Wolverhampton Branch)

Who are we?

We are a Veterans’ organisation, originally formed to support members of The Staffordshire Regiment (The Prince of Wales’s) which was the County Regiment for Staffordshire until the amalgamation with the Mercian Regiment in 2007. We encourage and welcome any Mercian regiment veterans to enquire about associate membership with the branch.

In 2022 all the volunteers were immensely proud to receive The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service (MBE for voluntary organisations) for the support and services we deliver to the veteran community, adding to this accolade we were the first veteran association to receive this prestige award.

We operate under the umbrella of the Staffordshire Regimental Association Charity; we plan Branch fund raising activities throughout the year to support the services we offer.

The services we provide are:

Branch meetings

We hold a branch meeting for all members every first Wednesday of the month which starts at 7.30 pm at the Conservative club in Wednesfield, Wolverhampton.

Independent Living

Loans of mobility aids and mobility scooters to veterans and their extended family members to help them maintain their independence in the community, an example of the service we have provided is the loan of a wheelchair & walking aid to a late veteran's daughter who is undergoing treatment for cancer. We loan the equipment out on a temporary basis and ensure we have an inventory that is well maintained and available when required.

Welfare

We keep in regular contact with all the veterans and branch members by telephone or doing personal visits from our Welfare Officer. The Welfare Officer also stays connected with anyone who is unwell or receiving hospital treatment.

Funeral arrangements

We offer support to the families of ex-service personnel of the Staffordshire Regiment with funeral arrangements with the attendance of the Branch Standard Bearer and branch members.

Birthday Acknowledgments

All members of the branch and children of the branch members are sent a birthday card every year.

Children of the branch

We also raise funds for the children of branch members to ensure they each receive a gift every Christmas, which is hand delivered by ‘Santa's little helpers' to show the children that we are thinking of them.

Social events

We plan and offer a variety of social events for members throughout the year.

Annual Dinner

The Branch hosts an annual regimental dinner for all members and associates.

Armed Forces Day

The branch members support the Armed Forces Week events and attend the events that take place on Armed Forces Day each year.

Remembrance Sunday

The Branch support Remembrance Sunday ceremonies in many areas of Wolverhampton and beyond to represent the Staffordshire Regiment.

We operate under the umbrella of the Staffordshire Regimental Association Charity; we plan Branch fund raising activities throughout the year to support the services we offer.
